A closed-off kitchen opened into the dining and living space, with custom cabinetry, a long stone island and a built-in banquette for everyday meals.
A house of this size gives you room to be ambitious, and the brief here was for rooms with real character rather than a neutral remodel applied evenly throughout.
The library is the clearest example: full-height built-ins in a deep charcoal, picture lights, and shelving planned around an existing arched window so the joinery frames it instead of fighting it. The drawing room went the other way, in a saturated blue with a marble fireplace surround and cabinetry either side of the chimney breast.
Behind all of it the ordinary work of a whole-house remodel was going on: structure, systems, insulation and the hundred small repairs a house of this age has been quietly accumulating.
